After playing two domestic matches for the Delhi cricket team, Virat Kohli has opted out of today’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Delhi and Railways at KSCA Cricket (2) Ground, Alur. Following Kohli’s exclusion from the Delhi squad, head coach Sarandeep Singh confirmed his unavailability for the clash against the Railways cricket team. The 37-year-old right-hand batsman was instructed by the BCCI to play at least two Vijay Hazare Trophy matches before his international appearance against New Zealand.
Why is Virat Kohli not playing today in Delhi vs Railways?
The real reason behind “Why is Virat Kohli not playing today in Delhi vs Railways?” is his commitment to the IND vs NZ ODI series. The BCCI has advised players to report to Baroda for the training camp ahead of the 1st ODI on January 11.
King Kohli kicked off his Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign in the Delhi vs Andhra match, where he smashed 131 runs off just 101 balls, including 14 fours and 3 sixes. He followed this up in the Delhi vs Gujarat match, falling just short of another century after scoring 77 runs. Although Cricbuzz reported that Virat Kohli would feature in today’s Delhi vs Railways match, this turned out not to be the case.
King Kohli mentored young talents during his domestic return
Virat Kohli’s comeback in domestic cricket was much more than just his innings. He met with young talents, had conversations about their style of play, and coached them whenever needed. Several young Indian cricketers admired King Kohli’s return and thanked him for this special appearance. Gujarat spinner Vishal Jayswal, who took Virat Kohli’s wicket, considered the most prized of his career, stated:
I didn’t have any specific plan against him. He’s a legend of the game. Just bowling to him is huge moment and there is immense pressure when he’s at the crease. I spoke to him and he gave me lot of tips, how to remain calm under pressure.
